A good exercise to do in place of pull ups would be lat pulldowns. Mind you, lat pulldowns certainly aren't as effective as pull ups but they are a decent alternative. Another exercise with weights that would be good would be the military press. Maybe another good exercise to do would be push ups. Those are good for moderate strength building.

You can over train & get to a point where you are not going forward ( gaining anything)
Put your weights up on the weight days to improve your strength
then you can add reps once you gain more strenght.
